Salivary gland retention cyst

Salivary gland retention cysts are benign formations that occur throughout the oral cavity, especially more commonly in the lower lip. The main cause is the obstruction of the salivary gland duct, resulting in restricted saliva secretion.

This restriction leads to the accumulation of saliva in the gland and the formation of various-sized fluid-filled swellings, retention cysts. Treatment in such cases involves the surgical removal of the retention cyst.
